Emergency Dental Care

Root canals can be lengthy, and it may not be possible to complete this in a short emergency slot as rushing the procedure can compromise the quality of the result. We will get you out of pain and treat what we can immediately, then schedule a second appointment.

Firstly, try to stay calm and find the tooth.

The NHS suggests holding the tooth by the crown (the white part that sticks out of the gum), and rinsing it in a saline solution, milk or saliva if dirty. Then, try to reinsert it into the socket, then bite down gently on a cloth to hold it in place. If it cannot go back in, we suggest storing it in milk or saliva. Spit into a container if it’s your tooth, or get your child to do so if it’s theirs. Then, call us as soon as possible.

Note: Do not attempt to replace a baby tooth as it could damage the permanent tooth growing underneath it.

Emergency treatments at Circ Dental involve:

• Draining an abscess
• Performing an emergency pulp extirpation (removing the nerve)
• Placing fillings (temporary or permanent)
• Extracting a tooth
• Re-cementing a crown
• Repairing a denture
• Replanting and splinting knocked-out teeth

Depending on the treatment, we may offer you a local anaesthetic.

If it’s a small enamel or dentine level chip, yes. If the fracture is large and involves the nerve, this may require another appointment.
